The Department of Botany was established in the year 1972 under Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam.

Department of Chemistry of Government College Kottayam offers B.Sc. Chemistry (Model-II) with specialization in Industrial Chemistry (under-graduate) and MSc Industrial Chemistry (post-graduate) programmes.

The Department of Commerce of this College has been started in the year 1976 with B Com (Taxation) degree course.

The Department of Economics

The Department of English came into being with the inception of the college in October 1972.

The Department of Geology, Government College, Kottayam was established in 1976 with the introduction of B.Sc. Geology course

The department started functioning in August 1972 with pre-degree first group and BSc Mathematics.
